Brilliant Teams
Great teams
don’t happen
by accident.
Hiring brilliant people is essential. But creating the conditions, and behaviours, of a brilliant team are what separates a collection of capable individuals from something genuinely greater.
The real challenge
Companies invest in talent.
Not in teams.
Most leaders build teams the same way. Hire capable people. Put them in a room. Hope for the best. But, this isn’t a strategy, and the data accumulated across decades of organisational research is clear: capability alone does not predict performance. The conditions around it do.
Google’s Project Aristotle — one of the most rigorous team performance studies ever conducted — set out to find what made its highest-performing teams different. The answer was not talent density. It was not seniority. It was not even how well the team members knew each other. The single strongest predictor of team performance was psychological safety — the shared belief that the team is a safe place to take risks, voice ideas, and tell the truth without fear of punishment.
Most organisations never build that. Not because they don’t want to — but because nobody ever creates the space for it. The hard conversations don’t happen. The unspoken rules stay unspoken. Teams perform at the level their environment allows, not at the level their talent suggests. That gap is the opportunity — and it belongs to the organisations who are willing to close it.

Psychological safety is the #1 predictor of team performance — above talent density, seniority, and team composition. The conditions a company creates matter more than the people they hire.
What we work on
Four areas where
teams are won or lost.
Every team is different. But the patterns that produce brilliant teams — and the patterns that quietly prevent them — tend to cluster around the same four areas. This is where we focus.
01
Psychological safety and trust
Creating the conditions where people do their best thinking, not their safest. At its heart, this is a practice of kindness and empathy — how the team disagrees, how mistakes are handled, how ideas are received without judgement. When those habits take root, honest contribution becomes the norm rather than the exception. Trust is not a value you can put on a wall. It is a set of repeated behaviours that either build it or erode it.
02
Team dynamics and how work actually gets done
Roles, accountability, decision-making, and the unspoken rules that either help or hurt. Most teams have never had an honest conversation about how they actually operate — not how they are supposed to operate, but how they do. We create the structured space for that conversation, and help teams build the clarity and agreements that follow from it.
03
Onboarding and integrating new leaders
One of the highest-risk, most under-supported transitions in any organisation. When a new leader joins an existing team, both sides are forming judgements in the first weeks that shape everything that follows. Most organisations leave that transition entirely to instinct. We build the structured conversation that makes it work — for the leader and for the team.
04
Culture as a performance lever
Understanding what your culture actually is — not what you say it is — and using it intentionally. The research is clear: inspiration is the #1 driver of workplace happiness. Cultures that inspire, that recognise the whole person and not just their output, are the ones that retain brilliant people and bring out the best in them. We help organisations close the gap between the culture they describe and the one their teams experience every day.
Example workshops
Brilliant workshops.
Built for the moments
teams need most.
These are not off-the-shelf sessions. Every workshop is built around the specific team, moment, and challenge in front of us. What these examples give you is a sense of the work — the level, the focus, and the standard we hold ourselves to.
Find out what is actually going on — and build something better.
This is not a team-building day. There are no trust falls. It is a structured, honest conversation about how the team is actually working — what is being said, what is not being said, where the friction is, and what needs to change.
Grounded in the psychological safety research and the Brilliant Humans belief that when leaders and teams operate from a foundation of kindness, empathy, and inspiration, performance follows — this workshop surfaces the unspoken dynamics that are quietly limiting performance and gives the team a clear path forward. Most of the breakthroughs happen not in the exercises, but in the conversations that the structure makes possible for the first time.
The Brilliance Assessment — exclusive to Brilliant Humans partners
Before the workshop, each team member completes the Brilliance Assessment — a deep-dive diagnostic developed exclusively for organisations working with Brilliant Humans. It surfaces individual strengths, blind spots, and the human dynamics that shape how the team actually operates. It is used to design and facilitate the day with precision — so the conversation that happens is the one the team genuinely needs, not a generic framework applied from the outside.
Best for
- Leadership teams ahead of a new phase of growth or a significant strategic moment
- Functional teams where performance has plateaued and the reasons are not yet fully visible
- Any team navigating a significant change in membership, structure, or direction — and wanting to meet that moment with intention rather than assumption
The first 90 days set the tone for everything that follows.
The single highest-risk moment in any team’s life is when a new leader arrives. Whether they have been promoted from within, hired from outside, or inherited the role from someone who left a long shadow — most organisations leave that transition entirely to instinct. The team waits to see who this person is. The leader tries to read a room that is not yet ready to be read. And the weeks that matter most slip by in cautious adjustment rather than genuine progress.
This workshop creates the structured conversation that most teams never have — giving both the leader and the team a framework for building trust quickly, surfacing expectations on both sides, and establishing the foundation for genuine performance. It is not a team-bonding exercise. It is the practical work of becoming a functioning unit fast — because the clock starts on day one, whether you are ready or not.
The two-day format goes deeper: day one is run with the team alone — surfacing what they value, how they work best, and what they need from their new leader. Day two brings the leader into the room for a facilitated conversation built on that foundation. The result is a level of mutual understanding that would otherwise take months of guesswork to reach.
The Brilliance Assessment — exclusive to Brilliant Humans partners
Prior to the workshop, both the incoming leader and the existing team members complete the Brilliance Assessment. For the leader, it surfaces their strengths, working style, and areas of development. For the team, it reveals what they collectively value, how they are wired as a group, and what they most need from the person stepping into their world. That understanding — shared carefully and with purpose — is what makes the integration genuine rather than performative.
Best for
- Newly appointed leaders at any level stepping into an established team
- Teams who have recently experienced a leadership change — expected or otherwise
- Organisations who want to reduce the time, cost, and cultural risk of leadership transitions

The Brilliant Humans Index
The BHI is a structured self-assessment that maps how you currently show up as a human being and team member against the behaviours and conditions that consistently predict high performance. It takes five minutes. It will tell you more about how you operate than most people hear in a year.
The Index covers the key pillars of Brilliant Humans — kindness, empathy, and inspiration — and produces a profile you can act on immediately, with or without our involvement.
Take the Brilliant Humans Index →The Brilliance Assessment
The Brilliance Assessment is a detailed evidence-gathering process built around deep self-reflection — for individuals and for teams. It surfaces natural strengths, blind spots, and the dynamics that shape how a group of people actually operates together. It is the foundation on which every Team Reset, New Leader Integration, and Advisory relationship is built.
The Assessment is only available as part of a Brilliant Humans engagement — because everything we do together works better when we both know where to start.

Three studies.
One direction.
The research points the same way across three independent global studies: performance is a conditions problem, not a talent problem. The organisations investing in those conditions are pulling ahead. The ones that are not are watching capable people underperform — and not understanding why.

Gallup State of the Global Workplace 2026
−5pt
Manager engagement fell from 27% to 22% in a single year (2024–2025). When managers are disengaged, the people they lead are significantly more likely to be disengaged too. The cost flows directly into team performance.
Global Workplace Happiness Report 2026
37%
Only 37% of people feel genuinely cared for at work. Inspiration is the #1 driver of workplace happiness. Brilliant teams make that possible — not just higher performance, but the experience of being somewhere worth giving your best to.
How we engage
Three ways to work together.
We keep the engagement model simple. Three formats, each designed for a different moment. The workshops are often where things start — but the Advisory relationship is where the most significant change happens.
01
Workshop
1 to 2 days
A focused, facilitated session built around one of the four pillars — Leadership, Communication, Teams, or Marketing. Workshops are designed to shift thinking, surface what is really going on, and leave the team with something concrete to act on. They work best when there is a specific challenge, transition, or conversation that needs a dedicated space.
02
Programme
6 weeks to 6 months
A structured engagement with defined outcomes — focused on a single pillar or spanning multiple pillars in combination, depending on what the moment requires. Programmes are built around your organisation’s specific situation, not a template applied from the outside. They move at the pace that creates real change, not the pace that feels comfortable.
03
Advisory
Ongoing retained relationship
A retained relationship, typically 1–2 days per month, working across all four pillars as priorities evolve. Advisory works for founders and senior leaders who want a thinking partner with direct experience of the commercial and human challenges they are navigating — someone who can ask the questions that don’t get asked in the room.
Ready when you are
Every engagement
starts with a
conversation.
The team conversation is often the most honest one a leadership team ever has. Thirty minutes to explore what is really going on — and whether there is something worth building together.
